Some places have an empty strip mall on the outskirts of town. Not so in the Turkish city of Pamukkale.
No, Pamukkale (Turkish for “cotton castle”) has something altogether more intriguing on its outskirts – the ancient city of Hieropolis, or, more accurately, what’s left of it. You can check out the ruins of that city from the time of Antiquity on Thursday’s Bing home page.
Another interesting fact about Hieropolis? Archaeologists recently discovered a door in the ruins once believed to be the mythical gate to Hell. Head on over to Bing to get the full story on that.
